.A2 What are the most important things first timers need to know about SA people and culture? Most important things about country are people. The most famous person is Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Visiting Robben Island will help to understand this country and it’s history.This is my list of 10 most important people in SA. Other important people in the history of SA: Jan Van Riebeek, Paul Kruger, Mahatma Ghandi, Desmond Tutu, Frederick de Klerk, Fransois Pienaar, Charlise Theron, Christiaan Barnard, Mark Shuttleworth. These people are well known throughout the whole world. They are in a history of the country and they are the history of this country. History of SA will tell important information about people and their courage, survival and struggle, ups and downs. SA was described as a melting pot of nationalities, where you can meet people from different countries from all over the world, starting from all African countries and also from Europe, Asia, India, even America. It represents sheer diversity (cultural and natural), when cultures come together. Incredibly rich natural habitat also adds color to SA picture. SA has over 850 bird species an 85% of them are migrating and 50 bird species can only be seen in SA. All leading ornithologists are coming to SA to learn migration of birds. One of the beautiful socialites and businesswomen of Johannesburg was Hazel Crane. She was a firm favourite of A-list personalities after she became close friend of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. Hazel was present at most of charity events and she was known for her exceptional generosity. Hazel Crane made headlines of Johannesburg newspapers once again on the 10th of November 2003 after she was shot on her way to the court to testify against a man, who was accused in murdering her estranged husband, and who she helped to arrest. Not so far away from me is Hartbeespoort Dam and everything what comes with this place: endless possibilities to explore South African nature and wild life.
